I did feel it was a bit silly when the pope ordained a crusade on Cairo and I was the only one to respond. Very convenient how the AI does things and quests pop up which, one by one, let you do the various things the game offers. The first observation came quickly and it was that the start of the grand campaign feels a lot like a tutorial. Chosen because it sounded a bit different than your regular kingdom and I felt it would be fun focusing on making a trading empire and keeping as many people happy (albeit mostly my own). So I started my current campaign, playing as Venice. But since I haven't yet managed to make mods work on the mac side I figured let's try to play one of the standard campaigns. I recently installed Medieval 2 Total War onto my mac, already having played the mod Third Age for it on my windows partition. I'm not quite sure whether this is interesting to read, but I found these things to be odd/fun/frustrating (select where applicable).
